Clinical Measurement of Myocardial Infarct Size
نویسنده
چکیده
A modified method for the measurement of total creatine phosphokinase release from venous blood samples taken four-hourly after myocardial infarction has been used in 43 patients admitted to a Coronary Care Unit. The fractional decay rate (KD) of enzyme activity has been measured by a standardized method in each patient, and accuracy of the calculation of total enzyme release has been improved by allowance for individual variations in decay rate, and discarding of data from which decay rates cannot be measured within confidence limits of less than ± 15%. Total enzyme release was greater in cases of transmural infarction than in patients with subendocardial infarction, and showed a good positive correlation with clinical indices of the extent of myocardial damage. As noted by previous workers, this method allows for the measurement of the rate as well as the extent of enzyme release, and so should prove useful in the clinical evaluation of therapeutic agents which might accelerate or retard the rate of myocardial necrosis in patients with acute myocardial infarction.

Effects of hydroalcoholic extract from aerial parts of the sterile stems of Stachys inflata on myocardial infarct size in rats
Recently a potent anti-inflammatory effect of hydroalcoholic extract of the aerial parts of the sterile stems of Stachys inflata has been reported. This study examined whether hydroalcoholic extract isolated from aerial parts of non-flowering stems of Stachys inflata (standardized to contain 4.5% caffeic acid derivatives) reduce myocardial infarct size arising from coronary artery occlusion (30...

متن کاملEffects of pretreatment with non hypotensive dose of ramiprilat and losartan on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion induced arrhythmias and infarct size in rats
Introduction: Inhibition of renin angiotensin system represents an important approach in the management of cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of pretreatment with non-hypotensive dose of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, ramiprilat and angiotensin type 1 (AT1) receptor blocker, losartan on myocardial infarct size and arrhythmias in a rat mo...
متن کاملExploring the role of dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase-mediated reduction in tissue asymmetrical dimethylarginine levels in cardio-protective mechanism of ischaemic postconditioning in rats
Objective(s): Reperfusion of ischaemic myocardium results in reduced nitric oxide (NO) biosynthesis by endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) leading to endothelial dysfunction and subsequent tissue damage. Impaired NO biosynthesis may be partly due to increased levels of asymmetrical dimethylarginine (ADMA), an endogenous inhibitor of eNOS. As dimethylarginine dimet...
متن کاملThe quantification of infarct size.
We sought to summarize the published evidence regarding the measurement of infarct size by serum markers, technetium-99m sestamibi single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) myocardial perfusion imaging, and magnetic resonance imaging. The measurement of infarct size is an attractive surrogate end point for the early assessment of new therapies for acute myocardial infarction. For each ...
متن کاملAcute effect of burn trauma to small skin areas on myocardial ischemia reperfusion
Introduction: It has been reported that traumas such as transverse abdominal incision before myocardial ischemia result in a significantly decreased infarct size. This phenomenon is named remote preconditioning of trauma. Since small skin burn is one of most common traumas, the effect of this injury on ischemia-induced arrhythmias and infarct size was investigated in a rat model of ischemia-...
